Sharing our perspectives helps us identify with each other. That’s why interviews are core to my business. Whether I'm crafting a brand strategy, outlining a website, or writing a series of blog posts, I always start with a conversation.

Hi, I'm Becca. I'm a writer, runner, biker, and skier based in Golden, Colorado with my husband, toddler, and energetic puppy. I believe in the power of business as a force for good, so I founded Watterson Creative in 2019 to partner with early-stage entrepreneurs and Colorado small business owners struggling with cohesive brand storytelling. I help my clients build engaged customer communities by identifying their unique voice and using it to tell the stories at the heart of their mission.

My greatest joy is kicking off an engagement with a client who has built a business or product they're passionate about. We start with strategic interviews to capture tone and history, then move into collaborative messaging sessions, competitor review, and creative inspiration. The result? Clear, strategic messaging and story ideas that help attract loyal customers who identify with the company's mission and purpose. Finally, with a few customer advocates as our test audience, we bring the entire brand story to life through website copy, blog posts, social media, impact reports, and more.

Raised in the coastal town of Ipswich, MA, I followed my passion for mountains to Middlebury, Vermont, where I earned a degree in environmental studies and creative writing while running around the many college tracks of New England. Then it was back to the coast—West Coast this time—to hone my writing and tech startup skills in the fast-paced world of Airbnb communications, at a sustainable seafood nonprofit (The Future of Fish), and at a design-focused venture capital studio (West). After earning a master’s degree in science, environment, and health journalism at Northwestern University’s Medill School, I was ready to build my business as close to the mountains as possible, so we found a house a few blocks from a trailhead, and I got to work.
